Reasons To Be Confident in our Evaluated Tape Stock

You can count on our professionally evaluated video Tape. Over the years we have mastered the proper technique of evaluating tape and repackaging it so that it looks and performs like a brand new tape. We begin by using only the most recent videotapes. After careful inspection, if the tape is cosmetically acceptable, we run the tape on a RTI Evaluator.

This machine not only checks for defects such as edge damage, creases, and excessive dropouts but it also cleans the tape and reconditions it.

When the tape goes through the evaluator it goes through a series of tissues and burnishing blades, which can actually improve a tape by eliminating dust which causes dropouts or by straightening the tape and eliminating minor physical damage.

Once the tape has passed the evaluation process, it is then hand cleaned and carefully de-labeled. We use several chemicals which have been proven not to show any stains or markings for that specific tape. After this process the tape is again inspected by a professional. If any cosmetic imperfections are found such as scratches or stains, the tape is rejected never to be used again.

After the tape is de-labeled and cleaned it is degaussed once again. This second degaussing is done as a precautionary measure to insure a tape that will compete with a new one for proper performance. The evaluated tape is then repackaged back in it's original case and boxed.

We are so confident in our evaluated tapes that we will guarantee their performance. If a tape does not act properly let us know and we will send you a new one.

We Have the Best Machines in the business

We us only the best machines when it comes to cleaning recycled tapes. When it comes to our Betacam SP tapes, Digital Betacam Tapes, SX tapes, IMX tapes, HDCAM tapes, and HDCAM SR tapes we use the RTI VT4100. We have recycled millions of videotapes on this industry best machine.

TapeChek Pro Line 4100 is designed to meet the needs of broadcasters and other professional Betacam users. Because the Pro Line 4100 will accommodate both the standard and large sizes, all cassesttes for EFP, ENG, LMS and production VTRs can be recycled with one unit. This tape cleaning module utilizes three vacuum-assisted wiping tissues that effectively remove loose oxide and dirt from the tape surface before and after polishing. Precision dual sapphire burnishing system polishes the recording surface, eliminates "snowplow" debris, and improves head-to-tape contact in your recorders. Temporary dropouts are virtually eliminated.

The erase module provides complete full width erasure of recorded signal from Betacam oxide, Betacam SP, SX and Digital Betacam tapes when selected. Erases better than most bulk degaussers. It cleans and evaluates, too!

The revolutionary new LaserSCAN detector inspects the tape for physical defects and damage with virtually 100% coverage from edge to edge. RTI has used computer chip technology to produce an eight-cell photo receiver with virtually no gaps between photo sensors…and that means virtually no gaps in defect detection! This non-contact optical inspection system detects physical damage in videotape that could cause major disruptions of the picture and/or sound quality because, when physical damage occurs, it causes the tape to lose contact with the heads of the VCR…usually resulting in a dramatic loss in picture or sound. The solid-state visible laser in the LaserSCAN has many advantages. It has a long life and it runs much cooler than light bulbs. RTI’s special circuitry continually monitors the laser light output to guarantee consistent defect detection. Plus, the laser is a pinpoint light source…necessary to really pinpoint tape damage. When tape defects occur, the light path from the laser to the photo sensors is disturbed and a defect is counted in either the upper edge channel, the middle (video) channel or the lower edge channel on the display.

We use the 5100 for all of our DVCPRO and DVCAM tapes. This high end machine meets the needs of broadcasters and other professional DVCPRO cassette users. It accommodates all sizes of DVCPRO and DVCAM cassettes. It recycles and cleans the tape at high speed, polishes recording surface, eliminates debris and improves head-to-tape contact, erases, and optionally provides full width erasure at high speed while tape is cleaned. Speed is one of the major highlights of the 5100. It operates at 40 times normal tape speed for DVCPRO (25 times Mini DV play speed). It cleans, evaluates, erases and rewinds a 60 minute cassette in as little as 1-1/2 minutes. It is fully automatic & inserts any size cassette into a motorized loader. It also automatically senses cassette size and cleaning-evaluation cycle starts at the push of a button. The microprocessor electronics controls all loading and transport functions for safe, gentle tape handling. It needs no operator attention from start to finish.

For the 3/4 tape we use the VT3100. You won't see the defects until you play the tape — then it's too late. Streaks, flashes, “snow” and temporary dropouts are usually caused by wrinkles, creases, edge damage, loose oxide or other contaminants. When you play a damaged or defective tape, you look unprofessional and disappoint your viewers. And you could be wasting valuable time and money by recording on defective tapes. Furthermore, bad videotape can clog or misalign the video head of your player/recorder and cause expensive repairs.

The RTI Videotape Evaluator/Cleaner will let you know for sure whether or not a tape is defective, BEFORE it's too late, before an important recording is lost forever or costly retaping is required. And it will help prevent future damage to tapes and equipment. It allows you to manage videotapes in the professional way you may have thought impossible.

This RTI tape preservation system detects and counts physical tape defects, while simultaneously removing contaminants and polishing your tapes. And it does all this without affecting recorded signals on the tape. High Speed Performance With high-speed precision, the RTI system counts damage in the control, video and audio areas of the tape, and it shows the counts in large LED displays. This U-Matic model inspects and cleans your tapes at over 30 times normal play speed. A 20 minute tape can take less than a minute to inspect and clean. And it's fully automatic. All you do is drop in a cassette and push a button.

High speed performance is made possible by lab-standard excellence in design and construction. Special microprocessor programs monitor all critical functions of the RTI system. Even detector calibration is monitored and can be displayed on the front panel readouts to insure accurate detection on all four channels. Precision Sapphire Burnishing Loose oxide (the leading contaminant of videotape) is removed by the RTI cleaning system. The sapphire burnisher thoroughly polishes the oxide for maximum tape performance. Loose dirt, oxide and other debris are wiped away from both sides of the tape by special cleaning tissues.

The Optional External Printer completes Data Reports in the Format of Your Choice. Controlled and operated by the RTI system microprocessor and data memory, the Printer option gives you more than just defect counts. Comprehensive reports give you a hardcopy record of the tape's condition and the locations of all defects. It provides a complete recap of the digital displays, with separate columns showing control, video and audio track defects and oxide voids. You'll have instant management reports indicating whether or not the program portion of the tape is usable. The reports also help you keep the data straight, since each printout is identified with the cassette number and evaluation date. It will provide you with both a quick defect data recap and a detailed defect location report, or either one depending on the amount of information you need.

In addition, various report formats can be selected with this versatile, software-controlled system. The 4-channel RTI defect detection system is fast, accurate and easy to use, so you will know the physical condition of tapes before you use them allowing you to:Remove bad tapes from your collection, eliminate re-dubbing time and costs, prevent tapes from damaging your recording equipment, provide your customers or viewers with documented good tapes, cleans routine burnishing and cleaning of your tapes can eliminate up to 70% of the temporary dropouts. Even prerecorded tapes will look better after only one pass through the RTI Evaluator/Cleaner, cleans tapes, keeps recorder clean

Burnishing promotes maximum tape performance. Good tapes look sharper when cleaned; marginal tapes become more acceptable. Clean tapes save maintenance time and costs.

Protects critical components in your VCR - the video, audio and control track heads. When you play tapes, they become dusty, dirty and the oxide loosens. This debris accumulates on the heads and inside the recorder, causing permanent damage and expensive repairs. It also interferes with video signal transfer so pictures look “snowy” and tapes become further damaged. Protect your video equipment, your tapes and your reputation with RTI.
